Un Dia Trist - Ho Portem Dins - Castellers / A Sad Day - It Is In Our Blood - "Castellers" (Human Castles)

Avui m'han donat una notícia molt trista. Cada dia arriben noves vides, però també d'altres se'n van. Impotència pel que no hi és, i tristesa pels que es queden. Això m'ha fet recordar d'un vídeo que tenia pendent de penjar aquí. Crec que és preciós de principi a fi, les imatges, la música, i el que simbolitza. I més encara pel fet de ser representat per Castellers de la nostra terra -concretament l'escena té lloc davant les portes de la Catedral de Girona-. No sé si són les imatges, o la música, o que jo també "ho porto dins", que cada vegada que el miro em cauen les llàgrimes des del primer segon fins a l'últim. Així doncs, l'important és aixecar-se després de tot...

Today is a bit of a sad day. It is true that new lives arrive every day to this World, but it is also true that some others leave, as well. Helplessness for the one that is gone, and sadness for the ones left in here. This reminds me about a video I still had not posted yet. I think that this is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen, for the images, the music, and what it means. Moreover, also because it is represented by Catalan "Castellers". "Castellers" would be human castles, a Catalan tradition and part of the culture and heritage of this land, something declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. These images are really moving for us, I hope you like them, too. The meaning, as you will guess, is that no matter how many times you fall down... the important part is how you rise up again, after all.

Aquí va avui una dedicatòria als "bojos" del món, que m'ha agradat molt. A aquells agosarats que han trencat amb tot, i han marcat diferència. A aquells que s'han atrevit a viure, a somiar, i a fer realitat els seus somnis... passés el que passés, o fos el que fos, el que pensessin els altres. Gràcies a ells, crec que el món és un lloc molt més humà i enriquidor. Una dedicatòria molt bonica, un clam a la vida i a deixar-nos de prejudicis. Un clam a que tots som importants a l'hora de fer petits canvis.

This is dedicated to the "crazy" ones. To all those who dared to live life beyond its apparent boundaries. To those who dared to walk against the crowd, for good, to dream, and to make their dreams come true... no matter what others might think, or disagree. Thanks to them, I believe the world is a much human and enriched place today. This is a call to life, and to leave prejudice behind. This is a demonstration that we all matter, and that we can all change things, for good.

Encara que potser no per a tothom aquests són dies agradables i feliços, suposo que sí que són dies per tots d'alguna manera especials, els de Nadal, i que poc o molt hi ha un sentiment al darrere. Avui m'agradaria desitjar-vos un bon Nadal :-) Teniu dues opcions a escollir: la primera, més emotiva -i potser un xic trista-, una música preciosa de la pel·lícula Joyeux Noël (Feliz Navidad), basada en els fets reals de fraternització entre soldats alemanys, francesos i escocesos en la nit de Nadal de 1914, durant la Primera Guerra Mundial quan, al front de batalla, van decidir fer una petita treva no oficial, deixar de matar-se mutuament i compartir uns moments de pau plegats. La cançó es titula Hymne Des Fraternisés (I'm Dreaming Of Home) i crec que és molt, molt bonica. Qui vulgui una opció més animada, però, que esculli la segona, que també va de soldats ;-)

We don't need to be the happiest guys around at Christmas, nor to enjoy every one of these days that are right ahead of us, but I guess that either you are a Christmas lover, or you are not, there might be a special feeling among most of us these days. So, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas today :-) You have two options now here: the first one, much more moving and emotive, is the Hymne Des Fraternisés (I'm Dreaming Of Home), a really nice song from the movie Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas). This movie is based on the true events that occurred on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day in 1014, during World War I, when German, French and Scottish soldiers had an unexpected and unofficial truce, gradually dropped their guns and weapons aside for a while, and decided to spend the journey in peace all together, in "no man's land". I really love this song... Those who prefer a happier greeting, though, please choose option number two, starring soldiers, too ;-)

Quina pena tan gran... El món tan bonic en el que vivim, les vides que podríem arribar a viure... tan diferents a les vides que vivim avui... L'ésser humà, lluny de ser intel·ligent, ho està espatllant tot. Ho estem espatllant tot. La paraula maleïda: "interès". Avui em cauen les llàgrimes, però jo soparé aquesta nit, i dormiré sota un sostre. D'altres, malauradament, no. Ara bé, seguiré comprant-me impressores, bombetes, portàtils nous i mitges noves, per poder sobreviure dins aquesta fastigosament meravellosa societat que hem creat. Per sort, per sort, sembla que no tothom és així.

Today, I have to hold tears and contain rage again as I go through this documentary, which I highly recommend. What an enormous waste of life, and world. And resources. And time, and health. In this beautiful world that holds us, things could be so, so very different. But oh, no. We forgot that we are humans, and that we are intelligent. So intelligent that we have decided to prioritize the damned "interest" (or should I say the damned "self-interest-no-matter-what") to anything else, even to common sense. Luckily, I will eat dinner tonight, and sleep under a roof. Other people, unfortunately, won't. Still, I will continue buying new printers, new light bulbs, new laptops and new stockings in order to survive in this sickeningly marvellous society that we've built.

Algú una vegada va dir: "Si vols una cosa de debò, amb moltes, moltes ganes, deixa-la marxar. Si torna a tu, lliure, serà teva per sempre. Si no ho fa... potser és que mai havia d'haver estat teva de bon començament". Només prendre, acaparar... i mai alliberar? Això no és just. Això no és llibertat.

Someone once said: "If you want something very badly, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever. If it doesn't, it was never meant to be yours to begin with". To catch, capture... and never to release? This is not fair. This is not freedom.

Tribut A Sir Edmund Hillary I Tenzing Norgay / Tribute To Sir Edmund Hillary And Tenzing Norgay

Aquest agost ha estat de celebracions a Catalunya, doncs s'han complert 25 anys de la primera ascensió catalana a l'Everest, la muntanya més alta del planeta, amb 8.848 m. Carles Vallès, Òscar Cadiach i Toni Sors (qui morí posteriorment en una altra expedició), foren els afortunats que tal dia com el passat 28 d'agost, però de 1985, aconseguiren aquesta fita. Adjunto primer l'entrevista que TV3 va fer a Carles Vallès i Òscar Cadiach fa uns dies, i en segon lloc però no per això menys important, un vídeo que he trobat en homenatge als primers alpinistes que varen coronar el cim d'aquesta imponent muntanya, "el sostre del món", l'any 1953: el neozelandès Sir Edmund Hillary, i el sherpa nepalès Tenzing Norgay. Un vídeo molt bonic per a uns herois inoblidables!

This August has been significant in Catalonia and celebrations have been seen around because of the 25th year anniversary of the first Catalan ascent to the 8,848 m summit of Mount Everest, in August 28th, 1985. The alpinists that succeeded that day were Carles Vallès, Òscar Cadiach and Toni Sors (who unfortunately died in the mountains a few years later, in a subsequent expedition). The first one of the videos is an interview in Catalan language with Carles Vallès and Òscar Cadiach, but the second video is a very beautiful tribute to the first two men that reached the top of the world, in 1953: the New Zealand alpinist Sir Edmund Hillary, and the Nepalese sherpa Tenzing Norgay. For many of us, two unforgettable heroes!

Des de la seva ascensió a l'Everest, Edmund Hillary va establir una relació molt especial tant amb Tenzing Norgay, com amb el poble nepalès, fins al punt que va acabar dedicant gran part de la seva vida a ajudar aquest poble, va crear una fundació per fer-hi diverses escoles i hospitals, i va continuar visitant-hi la seva gent cada any.

Since his ascent to Mount Everest, a very special relationship was born between Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, as well as between him and the whole Nepalese people. This place was so meaningful to Hillary that he ended up dedicating most of his efforts to helping them, founding a non-profit organization which built schools and hospitals in Nepal, and visiting its people every year.

William Ernest Henley - Poema - "Invictus" / William Ernest Henley - Poem - "Invictus"

Un dels poemes més coneguts de William Ernest Henley, que podrem veure a la gran pantalla gràcies a la pel·lícula que porta el seu mateix nom: "Invictus". A Henley li van haver d'amputar una cama degut a la greu tuberculosi que va patir quan era petit: una incapacitació física que posteriorment va inspirar el personatge de Long John Silver, el famós pirata "pata de palo" creat pel seu amic Robert Louis Stevenson i que és un dels caràcters principals de l'obra "L'illa del tresor". Al 1875, Henley va escriure "Invictus", poema que es repetiria nombroses vegades Nelson Mandela a sí mateix, anys després, durant els pitjors moments dels seus vint i set anys de captiveri en presons sud-africanes degut a la seva lluita contra el racisme i la política de segregació racial (apartheid).

One of the most famous poems by William Ernest Henley, which we can see in the big screen these days due to the film that carries its very same name: "Invictus". Henley suffered from severe tuberculosis when he was a child, having a leg amputated because of this illness, a disability that inspired in his friend Robert Louis Stevenson the character of Long John Silver, the famous pirate with a wooden leg, main character of his novel "Treasure island". Henley then wrote, in 1875, the poem "Invictus", a poem Nelson Mandela would repeat to himself many times during his twenty seven years of captivity in South African prisons because of his struggle against racism and the racial segregation system (apartheid).
