Avui m'han donat una notícia molt trista. Cada dia arriben noves vides, però també d'altres se'n van. Impotència pel que no hi és, i tristesa pels que es queden. Això m'ha fet recordar d'un vídeo que tenia pendent de penjar aquí. Crec que és preciós de principi a fi, les imatges, la música, i el que simbolitza. I més encara pel fet de ser representat per Castellers de la nostra terra -concretament l'escena té lloc davant les portes de la Catedral de Girona-. No sé si són les imatges, o la música, o que jo també "ho porto dins", que cada vegada que el miro em cauen les llàgrimes des del primer segon fins a l'últim. Així doncs, l'important és aixecar-se després de tot...

Today is a bit of a sad day. It is true that new lives arrive every day to this World, but it is also true that some others leave, as well. Helplessness for the one that is gone, and sadness for the ones left in here. This reminds me about a video I still had not posted yet. I think that this is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen, for the images, the music, and what it means. Moreover, also because it is represented by Catalan "Castellers". "Castellers" would be human castles, a Catalan tradition and part of the culture and heritage of this land, something declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. These images are really moving for us, I hope you like them, too. The meaning, as you will guess, is that no matter how many times you fall down... the important part is how you rise up again, after all.

Aquí va avui una dedicatòria als "bojos" del món, que m'ha agradat molt. A aquells agosarats que han trencat amb tot, i han marcat diferència. A aquells que s'han atrevit a viure, a somiar, i a fer realitat els seus somnis... passés el que passés, o fos el que fos, el que pensessin els altres. Gràcies a ells, crec que el món és un lloc molt més humà i enriquidor. Una dedicatòria molt bonica, un clam a la vida i a deixar-nos de prejudicis. Un clam a que tots som importants a l'hora de fer petits canvis.

This is dedicated to the "crazy" ones. To all those who dared to live life beyond its apparent boundaries. Avui adjunto aquí un petit reportatge sobre l'abandonament de Kilian Jornet a la cursa Cavalls del Vent. Aquest sensacional esportista català, davant la sorpresa de tothom el passat mes d'octubre, en plena carrera i a escassos metres de la primera posició, va parar i va decidir dir prou a allò que estava fent. Kilian gaudeix a la muntanya, però a vegades la trajectòria que prenen les coses fa que tot canviï i perdin el sentit. Quan això passa, crec que pot ser bo dir "prou" d'alguna manera, estirar la palanca del fre de mà, aturar el tren que estem portant i preguntar-nos si la direcció que estem prenent -sigui en l'àmbit que sigui de les nostres vides- és la que realment volem. És cert que avui tot va molt ràpid, potser massa a vegades, i de temps per estirar el fre i escoltar-nos, n'hi ha més aviat poc!

I want to share with you today a tiny documentary about Kilian Jornet's abandonment in the Cavalls del Vent race last October, in 2011. He did something unexpected before our eyes, just a few meters away from the first position. Kilian loves running, but sometimes the circumstances surrounding a subject change, and then the subject loses all meaning. So he decided to stop. He decided to quit doing something that had no meaning for him. I think that this can be applied to many aspects of our lives, where we are usually driving fast trucks without using the hand-break, without realizing if the road we are in is leading us to the places we really want.

Esports D'Hivern: La Segureta A La Muntanya I... Esquí Extrem! / Winter Sports: Mountain Safeness And... Extreme Skiing!

Si hagués d'escollir entre estiu i hivern... seria difícil! Sóc fredolica de mena, però l'hivern i la neu... són irresistibles! Aquí va un reportatge de Xavier Casillanis i Televisió de Catalunya que està molt bé, per tots aquells que sigueu amants de la muntanya i dels esports d'hivern i neu. Algunes d'aquestes pràctiques són arriscades -o molt arriscades- i és important fer-les amb seguretat. I més avall, amb l'últim vídeo, deixem-nos estar una mica de teories i... a gaudir! ;-)

If I had to choose between summer and winter, it would not be an easy choice for me! I am always cold and wrapped up from October to May, but winter and snow are too much to be avoided! Here you have a documentary by Xavier Casillanis and Catalonia Television that I recommend watching. If you love nature, mountains and winter sports related to the snow, you know you have to really care about your safety. There is one last video at the bottom of this post as well, for you to leave theroies behind and... enjoy! ;-)

Bon Nadal - Hymne Des Fraternisés (Joyeux Noël) / Merry Christmas - Hymne Des Fraternisés (Joyeux Noël)

Encara que potser no per a tothom aquests són dies agradables i feliços, suposo que sí que són dies per tots d'alguna manera especials, els de Nadal, i que poc o molt hi ha un sentiment al darrere. Avui m'agradaria desitjar-vos un bon Nadal :-) Teniu dues opcions a escollir: la primera, més emotiva -i potser un xic trista-, una música preciosa de la pel·lícula Joyeux Noël (Feliz Navidad), basada en els fets reals de fraternització entre soldats alemanys, francesos i escocesos en la nit de Nadal de 1914, durant la Primera Guerra Mundial quan, al front de batalla, van decidir fer una petita treva no oficial, deixar de matar-se mutuament i compartir uns moments de pau plegats. La cançó es titula Hymne Des Fraternisés (I'm Dreaming Of Home) i crec que és molt, molt bonica. Qui vulgui una opció més animada, però, que esculli la segona, que també va de soldats ;-)

We don't need to be the happiest guys around at Christmas, nor to enjoy every one of these days that are right ahead of us, but I guess that either you are a Christmas lover, or you are not, there might be a special feeling among most of us these days. So, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas today :-) You have two options now here: the first one, much more moving and emotive, is the Hymne Des Fraternisés (I'm Dreaming Of Home), a really nice song from the movie Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas). This movie is based on the true events that occurred on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day in 1014, during World War I, when German, French and Scottish soldiers had an unexpected and unofficial truce, gradually dropped their guns and weapons aside for a while, and decided to spend the journey in peace all together, in "no man's land". I really love this song... Those who prefer a happier greeting, though, please choose option number two, starring soldiers, too ;-)

Si no ho fa... potser és que mai havia d'haver estat teva de bon començament". Només prendre, acaparar... i mai alliberar? Això no és just. Això no és llibertat.

Principis De Pel·lícula Impressionants - Máximo Riesgo (1993) I Wolfgang Güllich / Cinema Impressive Openings - Cliffhanger (1993) And Wolfgang Güllich

I ja que tenim els altaveus preparats... seguint amb el cinema, aquí va un inici de pel·lícula que a molts ens va tallar la respiració fa anys, quan el vàrem veure a la gran pantalla. I no ho dic tant per l'accident que hi té lloc, que també et deixa gelat però per altres motius... sinó en aquest cas per la magnífica combinació de música i fotografia que hi ha al llarg dels primers tres o quatre minuts de projecció. Per què no vaig apostar per ser pilot d'helicòpter? ;-) Quanta bellesa, i quanta força... Genial! Sensacional!

Again with cinema, this time a great opening that astonished many of us years ago in front of the big screen. And I don't mean the accident that occurs later on, but the first two or three minutes of film, which lead to a magnificent combination of music and photography. The amount of beauty and strenght here is impressive! How powerful... Why didn't I bet for being a helicopter pilot? ;-) Hope you admire it!

També aprofitar aquí per recordar a Wolfgang Güllich, un dels millors i més atrevits escaladors del món, actor de doblatges, i qui va fer de "Silvester Stallone" a les escenes més perilloses d'aquesta pel·lícula. Conegut per haver obert diverses vies de màxima dificultat, per haver elevat el grau de dificultat de vies d'escalada en el seu moment, i per haver estat pioner en vies en solo integral (això és, escalant sense arnés, ni corda, ni peces que t'assegurin a la paret, ni cap tipus de protecció que et pugui salvar en cas de cometre un error). Realment s'ha d'estar molt segur de les teves possibilitats per fer una cosa així! Malauradament, Wolfgang Güllich va morir a l'any 1992, a l'edat de 31 anys, poc després de completar les escenes que rodava per Máximo Riesgo i poc abans de l'estrena de la pel·lícula. Ironies de la vida, no va morir escalant, sinó d'un accident de cotxe.

I would like to dedicate this post to the climber Wolfgang Güllich, one of the best climbers in history ever. He was well known for the opening of new routes, for having added several grades to the climbing grading system, and also for his free solos (that is, climbing with no ropes, no harnesses, nor any other kind of protective material that could prevent one from falling in case something went wrong). You have to really know your limits to dare with something like that! As a stuntman, he was "Silvester Stallone" in the most dangerous scenes of this film. Unfortunately, Wolfgang Güllich died in 1992, when he was only 31 years old, just after completing the filming of the scenes he was performing in Cliffhanger, and just before the film was released. He didn't die climbing, though. It was a car accident.

Força bonic, de la pel·lícula Kung Fu Panda, que per cert no he vist. L'ahir és història, el demà és un misteri, però l'avui... l'avui és un regal, per això se li diu "present".

Quite a beautiful compilation of scenes from the movie Kung Fu Panda, which I have not seen yet. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today... today is a gift, that is why it is called a "present".

El Síndrome De La Granota Bullida / The Boiling Frog Syndrome

Novament aquí el senyor René Mantecón amb una altra història que crec que és molt, molt encertada. Realment és increïble fins a quin punt arribem a aguantar certes situacions que ens fan mal, a vegades... Aquesta història que explica em recorda una historieta que una vegada em van explicar d'una granota. Resulta que una granota un dia va a parar dins una olla plena d'aigua freda (curiós començament) i es queda allà, doncs s'hi troba fantàsticament bé, nedant com una reina. De sobte, algú engega el foc, i l'aigua es comença a escalfar. La granota hi segueix estant bé, allà, tot i que l'aigua ara està calenteta. Al cap d'una estona, l'aigua comença a estar més calenta, però la granota, com que estava tan bé allà, i com que l'aigua està bastant calenta però no fins a un punt insuportable, s'hi segueix quedant. Al final l'aigua acaba estant realment molt, molt calenta, i la granota s'hi queda fregida (o millor dit, bullida) sense haver reaccionat a temps. La cosa està en que si aquella mateixa granota arriba a saltar per primera vegada dins aquella mateixa aigua quan aquesta ja estava molt calenta, s'hauria cremat de tal manera que hauria sortit d'allà dins per cames. Per què no ho va fer, llavors, la granota que està a l'olla des del principi? Quan el mal és progressiu, tenim tal capacitat d'adaptació que a vegades perdem l'objectivitat de la situació i la capacitat de reacció.

The story tells that if a frog is put into a pot of really hot water, the little animal, aware of the danger, will jump out of it so fast that no injuries will be found on its body. If the very same frog is put into a pot of cold water, instead, and then heated very slowly, the animal will adapt to the changes in the environment and will not jump out of the water even when it is very hot. At that moment, though, it is too late for her to jump out of the pot, and the little thing ends up boiled. This story can be applied to humans, too. When a painful environment approaches us progressively and slowly, we have such a capacity for adaptation that we sometimes lose the objective point of view of the situation, and our capacity of reaction.

La Història De L'Àguila I La Gallina / The Chicken And The Eagle Story

Aquesta és la història d'una àguila que, com que des de petita ha crescut en un galliner enmig de gallines, es passa tota la vida creient-se que és una gallina, picotejant el gra de terra com les altres gallines, i fent coc-coc. En realitat és una àguila preciosa i podria estar volant molt, molt amunt... però ha crescut mirant al terra i no s'atreveix ni a imaginar que pot arribar més enllà. Novament, crec que les coses no sempre són tan fàcils ni tan boniques en aquesta vida, però aquesta historieta en ocasions ens pot fer reflexionar, si més no el missatge. Si la voleu veure, us deixo amb el Sr. René Mantecón.

This is the story of an eagle that was raised among chickens. Living in a coop, she herself ended up believing she was a chicken. Guessing that she belonged to the land, our eagle friend spent all her life looking down, not knowing that her real nature was indeed much higher, up in the skies. Again, I know life is not so easy nor so beautiful sometimes, but it is in fact true that we usually behave according to what we believe, according to what we have been raised, not even daring to imagine we can fly a bit higher. This story is told in English language by Dr. Eldon Taylor in a video below. There is another video posted here as well for the same story, in English, to be read.

Al principi pensava que aquesta historieta no m'agradaria... és una mica trista, amb Nick Vujicic de protagonista... Però la vaig acabar de veure fins al final i em va encantar. També és sobre lluita i superació personal. Sovint, els límits ens els posem nosaltres!

At the beginning, I thought I would not like this short film at all. I foresaw it was going to be very sad, starring Nick Vujicic... But I kept on watching until the very end, and it turned out to be a really beautiful film. It is also about self improvement. Most of the times, we set our own limits!

Para Todos Aquellos Que Dicen No Puedo / For All Those Who Say I Can't

Un vídeo molt bonic... A més els bitxets que hi surten fan molta gràcia!! Si fossin mascotes, jo me'n comprava dos o tres segur! ;-) D'aquí m'agrada molt el missatge de lluitar pel que un realment vol en aquesta vida, de no rendir-se, per difícil que sigui (mentre es pugui... és clar!).

A very beautiful video... And the little bugs in it are very funny, in my opinion. If they were pets, I would keep some at home for sure! ;-) What I really like about this animation is the message of keep trying, no matter how hard it is, never surrender in achieving your dreams, what you really want in this life, that in what you really believe (as long as it is possible, of course!). The video is very graphic, though it has some sentences written by Paulo Coelho in Spanish language. Sorry, I could not find the English version of it either...

William Kamkwamba: "Cómo Dominé El Viento" / William Kamkwamba: "How I Harnessed The Wind"

William Kamkwamba és un jove africà que, quan tenia 14 anys, davant una època de males collites i la forta fam que passava la seva família, va començar a mirar llibres i, interpretant els dibuixos, va intentar construir un rudimentari molinet de vent per sobreviure. I el molí va donar resultat: va aconseguir generar electricitat i també poder regar els seus cultius. Des de llavors, la seva vida va fer un gir inesperat.

William Kamkwamba is a young african man who, some years ago, at the age of 14, with the help of some books and the pictures in them, tried to build a windmill. And he succeeded. And he not only could water his harvest and prevent his family from starving, but also generated electricity.

Randy Pausch (23 d'octubre de 1960 – 25 de juliol de 2008) va ser professor d'enginyeria informàtica a la Universitat Carnegie Mellon, a Pittsburgh, Pensilvània, als Estats Units. Tot i estar patint càncer en un estadi ja incurable, va fer diverses xerrades sobre la importància de lluitar pel que un vol aconseguir en aquesta vida, i sobre la vida mateixa. Crec que és una bona manera de mirar-se les coses... si més no una bona lliçó d'optimisme. Reconec, però, que no sempre és fàcil lluitar pel que un vol i que, a més, surti bé.

Rand Pausch (23 October 1960 - 25 July 2008) was a professor at Carnegie Mellon Unversity, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Even though he knew he had a terminal cancer, he never stopped encouraging others to really try to achieve their dreams. Since then, this "Last Lecture" has touched many, many people's hearts.

Aquest discurs que va fer al 2005 a la Universitat de Stanford demostra que, tot i les dificultats, a vegades amb insistència i creient en el que un vol, es pot aconseguir l'inimaginable.
